Wesley Brown is the newest Creek River District Executive at Boy Scouts of America.
The Georgia-Carolina Council recently welcomed Wesley Brown
as the new district executive for its Creek River District, which serves
Richmond, Burke, Emanuel, Jefferson and Jenkins counties.
Wesley, a native of Atlanta, earned Eagle Scout honors in October
2002 at the age of 16 while a member of Troop 1776 in Marietta, Ga. During his
time with the troop, which serves more than 100 scouts, he served as senior
patrol leader, was inducted into the Order of the Arrow and had the privilege
of attending all three High-Adventure trips (Northern Tier, Philmont and
Florida Sea Base). The son of an Eagle Scout, Wesley was awarded a bronze palm
before leaving the troop.
Wesley comes to Georgia-Carolina Council after seven years
as an award-winning journalist. He reported on a wide range of topics, from
crime and courts, to local and federal government, as a member of one weekly
and three daily newspapers in North Carolina and Georgia, including The Augusta Chronicle. During his time
as a reporter, he won nine awards, including first place in 2015 for hard news
writing in the Georgia Press Association’s Better Newspaper Contest.
With a Bachelor’s degree in mass communications from Georgia
College & State University and a passion for the Scouts and helping young
people, Wesley joins the council in hopes of acquiring new skills in
fundraising, volunteer recruitment and nonprofit programming.
He married the love of his life, Jessica, an Augusta native,
in April 2012 and the couple is expecting their first child in March. He lives
in Augusta and during his spare time enjoys billiards, canoeing, camping,
watching Auburn University football and spending time with his two dogs, Brandy
and Lina.
He may be reached at the council service center in Augusta
at 706-733-5277 or you can follow him @SocialSalutes on Twitter to learn the
latest happenings and achievements in the Creek River District.
