Recruiter Follows Family Tradition

Often times for families in the United States military service is the family business.  For Sergeant Calvin Tyson, Army Recruiter, Morganton Recruiting Station, this was very much the case.  Over 13 members of his family have served in the military and at least one in every war since World War II.
At the age of 27 Tyson was already married with two children and a full-time job with the school system, but he wanted to do more.
“I wanted to serve the country that I love while following in the footsteps of my hero - my father who served in the Army during the Vietnam War,” said Tyson.  He decided to enlist in the Army Reserves in June of 2001.
At the start of his Army career he was a Signal Support Systems Specialist in a transportation unit and then made the switch to Motor Transport Operator.  Tyson made his first deployment to Iraq in March of 2003, at the start of Operation Iraqi Freedom, as a M1070 HET Driver.  After his deployment he returned home to his civilian job but decided to become a recruiter in 2009.
“I decided to go full time in the United States Army because I Love my country and no matter what job I am given I want to serve my country until the day I can’t serve anymore.”
