Army Reserve Recruiter: A Real Life Success Story

Army Reserve Recruiter’s success story is built on service in all three components of the Army:  Regular Army, Army National Guard and the Army Reserve.
If you’re looking for a real life example of how serving in the Army can turn a life around, look no further than. Sgt. 1st Class John Davis, Army Reserve Recruiter, Hickory Recruiting Station.
According to Davis, he had never given much thought to joining the military.  After dropping out of high school, he realized he needed a plan – and when his friend mentioned the Army National Guard, he jumped on board.  Davis joined the North Carolina National Guard in 1991, and served a three-year enlistment.
After leaving the Guard Davis got married but could not find steady work.  He said he found himself doing odd jobs but not really getting anywhere.  In 1995 he joined the Army in order to provide a better life for him and his family.  Davis served on active duty until 2004 when he made the move to the Army Reserve.
“The Reserve offered me the opportunity to still serve my country without having to spend so much time away from the family,” Davis said.
After making the move to Reservist, Davis decided he missed the more active side of things so transitioned to the Active Guard Reserve. There he became a full time recruiter in order to “give young men and women the same opportunity to make something of their lives.”
Having completed the requirements for high school and earned his diploma, Davis said “I am now working on my associate’s degree.”
In Davis’ opinion the opportunities provided by the Army are endless.  He has been able to further his education, travel the world, provide health care for his daughter (who suffers with seizures), and provide for his children’s education.
“The Army gave me a chance to be a productive member of society instead of just another statistic, he said.”
The possibilities the Army offers are endless.  If you are not interested in going active duty, consider the Army Reserve.  There are numerous benefits to Reserve Soldiers just as there are benefits provided to active duty Soldiers.  For more information, visit www.goArmy.com/reserve or call SFC Davis at the Hickory Recruiting Station, 828.322.1075.
