Edward Ouellette is 17 years old from Grover, N.C., and joined the Army as a Cryptologic Linguist. Here are his thoughts about why he joined the Army team.
“When I was younger I always dreamed that one day I would be
special, someone who other people would respect, and idolize. As I grew older I
considered more and more that I would like to serve in the Military. Upon
reaching high school I took multiple language and welding classes. I was at a
confusing point in my life where I had no idea about what to do with my future.
I reached my senior year and with no real attempt to try to figure which career
I really wanted to pursue. My future way unclear until one day my math teacher
had 3 guest speakers come in to talk to my class. They were there to represent
the U.S. Army. I was amazed to find the same interest I once had in begin a
Soldier had resurfaced. I scheduled a meeting with the recruiter who came to my
class, and presented this life changing opportunity to me. Several meeting
later we determined the MOS I wanted (35P). The recruiter was able to secure
that job for me. Words cannot explain how blessed I feel that in the time I
needed a sense of direction most, I got what I needed. Everything since I swore in has been an
incredible journey. I have met numerous amazing people, and have countless good
times during training. The recruiting office is almost like a second home of
mine. I feel honored to have the chance to represent the U.S. Army, and I am
excited to see what the future may hold for me.”
