Southside Students will Explore Army by Interviewing Army Soldiers Feb. 26
The purpose of this state mandated class is to help students define a career goal and start them on the path to reach their goals. The class covers college and vo-tech preparation and an introduction to military service. “There will be no recruiting,” said teacher Michael Stokes. “I am trying a different approach to help the students research jobs and conduct job shadowing which is part of the curriculum.”
Who: 100 Southside Middle School’s Career Class students and 10 Army Soldiers
What: A Job Shadowing-Class Interview event with Army Personnel
Where: Southside Media Center, 200 East Howe Springs Road Florence, S.C.
When: February 26 between 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., dinner included
Why: To give students a chance to understand what jobs are available in the military. Students will learn what benefits, education, and training the military can offer a young person as they plan their career goals. Students will use this job shadowing activity with other local community job shadowing to compare and contrast them.
How: Soldiers will tell their Army Story in a panel discussion. Then the students will break into groups and talk with Soldiers to learn about their specific jobs and the Army lifestyle.
