Operation Homefront, Sponsors Help Army Recruiter

OH-SC, Coastal Carolinas and Kingston Plantation assist Georgetown Soldier struggling during the holidays

Myrtle Beach, S.C.-Operation Homefront of South Carolina, which provides emergency financial assistance for military families and wounded warriors, is partnering with Coastal Carolinas and Kingston Plantation to turn tragedy into joy for a local Servicemember this Holiday Season.

Sgt. 1st Class Dean Southern, an Army recruiter, out of Georgetown came home last week to find his house had been burglarized. Everything had been taken including the families’ computers, TVs, video consoles…as well as the Christmas presents under the tree and food missing.  “They took everything” says Southern. Ages of the Southern children are 17, 15 and 7.

This is not the only heartbreak the Southern Family has faced. On Memorial weekend 2009, while swimming off Myrtle Beach, 16-year old Troy Southern drowned. He was Conway High School’s linebacker of the Junior ROTC Program. “The robbers took his Wii, which still had his code’s.” states Southern.

Coastal Carolinas, who have adopted several coastal military families through Operation Homefront for the Holidays, heard about Southern and acted. Division President William Cutler, a Veteran himself, will be at the Hilton in Myrtle Beach presenting SFC Southern and his family with Holiday gifts and gift cards.

In addition, Kingston Plantation will be accepting donations and items for the Southern family at their Hilton location at 10,000 Beach Club Drive through Friday, December 23rd.
