Columbia Recruiting Battalion gets new Commander

Columbia, SC- - On June 24, Lt. Col. Charlester (Chuck) White will relinquish command of the US Army Recruiting Battalion Columbia to Lt. Col. Chris Forsythe.

The change of command will take place during a formal ceremony at the Fort Jackson Officer Club at 9 a.m.  Forsythe will take the reins from White, whose next assignment is with Space and Missile Defense Command.

“I am both honored and humbled by the opportunity to serve among the professionals of the Columbia Recruiting Battalion,” Forsythe said.  “It gives me great satisfaction to be part of the time honored recruiting tradition that affords qualified men and women the privilege to serve our great nation.”

Before coming to Columbia Battalion, Forsythe was the G8/Comptroller for the United States Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School.  He has served numerous tours at  Fort Bragg, N.C. as the Resource Management Officer, 3d Special Forces Group (Airborne) and Commander, Charlie Company, 82d Soldier Support Battalion(Airborne) as well as Commander of the 82d Financial Management Company.

Forsythe holds a Master’s Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the United States Naval War College, a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina –Chapel Hill.

“Since graduating from the University of South Carolina in 1993 (MBA), and subsequent graduation from the Finance Captain’s Career Course on Ft. Jackson, SC in 1996, I have not had the good fortune of serving in the Palmetto State,” said Forsythe.  “It is a pleasure to return to the great state of South Carolina and once again be a member of this community.”

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (2OLC), the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal (1 OLC), Master Parachutist Badge, Military Freefall Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Air Assault Badge, Ranger Tab, Australian Jump Wings, Canadian Jump Wings, and Dutch Jump Wings.

Forsythe is married to the former Julia Gregory and they have two sons, Jack and Alex.

NOTE: White has served as Commander of the US Army Recruiting Battalion Columbia for the past two years.  He is a graduate of Lugoff-Elgin High School and South Carolina State University. His previous assignments include several tours at Fort Hood, TX, Fort Lee, VA and Fort Gordon, GA and two deployments in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
